United Tractor & Equipment Ltd., has launched the newest Scania 4-series into the Sri Lankan market.
The 4-series which won the International Truck of the Year award in 1996, is an advanced version of the Scania-3 series. The new series is available in four chassis classes -L, suited for semi-trailer or full-trailer long distance haulage. D, best used as a box-body for urban and regional distribution, C. ideal for use as tipper or concrete mixer transportation and the all-around heavy duty operational G class. All four classes come in both day-cab and sleeper-cab (equipped with sleeping facilities) models, The short-to-long annual mileage trucks are manufactured to meet different road conditions. The cabs are built of steel around a safety cage to withstand heavy impacts.
Driver safety is the prime aim of Scania who have spent nearly US$300 million in research alone for the 4-series. Some models are equipped with “Opticruise Powertrain Management System which minimises the use of the clutch to start and stop. With the help of the Opticruise, drivers can concentrate more on the traffic situation rather than on pedal pushing. The trucks are optimised. to suit specific tasks right at the engineering stage. This fact does. not curtail the options available as each class offers an array of possible combinations. Scania d-series is a truck for the intended job!
The manufacturers have guaranteed that the series trucks offer greater engine efficiency while Cutting costs through minimising corrosion and service and component requirements.
