IBM Personal Computer Company announced plans to deliver and support Microsoft’s Windows. NT Workstation 4.0 preloaded on selected IBM Commercial Desktop, ThinkPad and RS/6000 models, and plans to deliver and support it on selected PC Server models.
Windows NT 4.0 offers IBM’s corporate customers another alternative when choosing an operating system which supports robust 32- bit applications used to turn PCs into high-powered workstations.
“This announcement demonstrates IBM’s leadership as an open systems supplier, and our commitment to delivering the hardware and software solutions customers want”, said Tony Santelli, general manager of product and brand management, IBM PC Company. “We’ve worked closely with Microsoft to ensure that IBM PC customers transitioning to Windows NT 4.0 benefit from full hardware and software compatibility. IBM fully tests and optimizes its systems for Windows compatibility.”
Since 1993, over 135 IBM technical professionals have worked closely with Microsoft, at IBM’s Washington based Kirkland Programming Center, to jointly develop, test and support Windows NT and Windows compatibility and compliance on IBM PCs, including PowerPC and Intel processor based systems.
IBM offers limited, no charge operating system service and support on all PC Server, RS/6000, ThinkPad and Commercial Desktop PC models purchased from IBM with Windows NT.(1)
