The 70 percent reduction in excise duty since November 1995, has resulted in a greater demand for beer. To meet this rising demand, Ceylon Brewery Limited, will be commissioning a state-of- the-art plant in Biyagama next year.
The new modern plant will be one of its kind in the South Asian Region, and will be built under the supervision of Steinecker and Krones of Germany. The cost of the plant is estimated to be Rs 3.5 billion in its final phase.
The reduction in the excise duty increased the turnover of the company by 164 percent, against the corresponding period, last year. The pre-tax profits have increased by Rs 29.181 million as against the same period last year.
