The Union Bank of Switzerland (UBS) has been rated as the number one research house in the Indian Subcontinent according to the 1996 Extel survey of investment analysts, weighted by the size of funds managed by the firms which voted for them.
Extel’s annual survey is by means of a questionnaire written by mail to over 107 fund managers. These fund managers had more than US$1 trillion under management.
ING Barings was ranked second, followed by Jardine Fleming WI Carr and CS First Boston, in that order UBS research on Sri Lanka is produced in association with John Keells Stock Brokers (Pvt) Limited. The UBS John Keells tie-up produced its maiden report “Vineyards in the sky” covering the plantation sector. The up-turn in the tea prices has resulted in the plantation sector being one of the most sought-after in the Colombo market. Following this association, several reports on Sri Lankan companies have been produced along with strategy reports on Sri Lanka.
