Though mainly a company specialising in Financial Services, LOLC is involved in a diverse set of industries, which include agriculture and plantation, renewable energy, leisure, construction, manufacturing and trading. The core strength of the group, however, lies in the Financial Services with the sector contributing 92 percent to the groups’ profit before tax.
A significant event in the calendar of the company was the acquisition of Browns Group, having observed the growth opportunities available through its portfolio of strong brands. The focus of the group in the onset of the current financial trends was mainly consolidating the business as a conglomerate with LOLC as the holding company.
The Profit After Tax of LOLC was 2.55 billion rupees and was achieved in a challenging global and macro economic environment in the country. LOMC, the fastest growing micro finance institute of
Sri Lanka secured the largest syndicated loan—facilitated by a group of Development Financial Institutions—which comprised of USD 55.5 million and this served as one of the main highlights for the group.
The total assets of the group grew to reach the 150 billion rupee mark, almost an 18 billion rupee increase compared to the previous year. This increase was brought about by the increase in the group’s lending portfolio and liquid investments.
With a focused strategic direction the group is making strides to diversify locally and internationally to consolidate itself.
